The revised version of the F.E.D.I.A.F Nutritional Guidelines for Complete and Complementary Pet Food for Cats and Dogs (dated September 2020) has now been published and is freely available to download from the F.E.D.I.A.F website:
This revision has seen several amendments (full details of which can be found on page 86 of the F.E.D.I.A.F Nutritional Guidelines document), but most notable are those changes made to lowering the minimum nutritional requirements for calcium and phosphorus for adult cats (Table 1 below), supplemented by the new footnote (g) reading “The bioavailability of minerals should be carefully considered in diet formulas where the concentration of these nutrients is close to the recommended amounts. For example, in high fibre diets and in formulas where plant based raw materials rich in phytate are used as the main source of phosphorus”.
Additionally, a second key amendment has been made to the minimum selenium requirement for both adult dogs and cats and now sees separate minimum requirements set for both wet and dry diets, as detailed below in Tables 2 and 3.
