The EFSA has published a scientific opinion (doi:10.2903/j.efsa.2018.5223), in which it confirms that the presence of recombinant DNA and viable cells has been found in samples of Riboflavin B2 (80%) produced from Bacillus subtilis KCCM-10445.
The conclusion of the panel was as follows:
Therefore, the FEEDAP Panel concludes that the product vitaminB2 (80%) as riboflavin poses a risk for the target species, consumers, users and the environment due to the spread of viable cells and DNA of a genetically modified strain-harbouring genes coding for resistance to antimicrobials of human and veterinary importance.
Following receipt of this information, Premier Nutrition under took an immediate review of it Riboflavin 80% stocks and contracts. On behalf of Premier Nutrition, I can confirm that our stocks and supplies of Riboflavin 80% are not related to thoses identified in the above mentioned EFSA opinion and our suppliers having supplied confirmation that the products we are using are guaranteed free from recombinant DNA and viable cells.
