Animal nutrition specialist and premix manufacturer, Premier Nutrition, is the first and only UK company of its kind to receive the globally recognised Food Safety System Certificate (FSSC 22000), demonstrating its place at the forefront of high quality and safe premix manufacture.
Jane Ratcliffe, technical services manager at Premier Nutrition, explains that the accreditation demonstrates the company’s dedication to quality and safety and is an accolade to the team’s hard work.
“We’re continually challenging ourselves and improve our offering to customers, ensuring both livestock and companion animal feeds are fit for both today and the future,” she says.
“We’re the first and only premix producer in the UK sector to receive this level of certification, over and above the well-known Universal Feed Assurance Scheme (UFAS). The whole team is immensely proud to have achieved such stringent criteria, otherwise only seen in the human food industry to-date.”
Mrs Ratcliffe explains that Premier Nutrition sees the value in ensuring customers and farmers are able to align closely with retailers.
“We foresee that retailers may request this high level of transparency as far back as feed raw materials. This is why we’ve taken steps to ensure our whole supply chain is future-ready by meeting human grade food standards now,” she says.
On top of the paperwork required for the accreditation, an in-person audit was carried out to ensure Premier Nutrition met the FSSC criteria. Going forwards, annual audits will be conducted to demonstrate that the company continues to meet the guidelines.
PET:
Dr Andrew Miller, pet nutritionist at Premier Nutrition explains that he is particularly proud of the achievement, which shows industry alignment in food safety and quality between a premix supplier and customer.
“The provision of safe and high quality pet foods is the goal of the whole pet food industry, so this represents a significant step to help assure customers, and ultimately pet owners, that Premier Nutrition is the right partner for them,” he says.
POULTRY:
Steve Pritchard, Poultry Director at Premier Nutrition explains that the company has always seen itself as being in the food rather than feed business. “Both customers and regulators demand more transparency throughout the supply chain, and the accountability of achieving the FSSC standard demonstrates this and underlines our commitment to ‘Food Industry Thinking’,” he says.
